AWARDS & CERTIFICATIONS

Barbara J. Martin brings over thirty years of experience in the areas of signage, wayfinding, branding and graphic design. She is the founder and CEO of the firm and has performed work throughout the country and in Europe of a similar scope to this RFQ. Starting the firm twenty-three years ago, she has watched its steady growth and expansion to multiple offices located in Pennsylvania, Florida and Tennessee.

She has received numerous accolades, awards and has been published in multiple periodicals, and books about her work and firm. Additionally, she has lectured on the Americans with Disabilities Act as it pertains to signage at numerous conferences tailored to architects, facilities management and administrative staff from government, healthcare, university and other public entities.

Martin, is the recipient of the Diamond Award for being one of the top 25 CEOs in the Pittsburgh Region, The Women in Business Award given out to only 20 women per year for company performance in the region and is a Distinguished Alum of her alma mater, Seton Hill University.

Her firm, KMA Design is the recipient of numerous design and business awards, including; “Fastest Growing Companies in Pittsburgh” due to doubling its revenue over a three-year period.

For the past six years, the firm has won the “best of award” for graphic design presented by the US Commerce Association. Additionally, KMA is the recipient of the American Graphic Design and Advertising “Best of Category” for graphic design for the past three years. Projects awards were garnered by the city of Pittsburgh’s iconic Gateway Clipper Fleet, rebranding and signage project, Seton Hill University’s Donor Helix design at the Joanne Woodyard Boyle Health and Sciences building and St. Johns University in Queens, NY for an overall exterior signage system and rebranding.

This year the firm won the Renaissance Award from the PRSA (Public Relations Society of America) and the Cuppie Award from the CUPRAP (College & University Public Relations and Associated Professionals) for a Centennial wall display at Seton Hill University celebrating the University’s 100th anniversary.

Branding and signage and wayfinding design for riverboat fleet along the Monongahela, Allegheny. and Ohio Rivers.
Signage and graphic enhancements, included boats, warf, dock and entrances.

“Award of Distinction”

St. Johns University, Queens, NY

Signage design and wayfinding for Queens, NY, Rome, Italy and Paris, France campuses. Sign types included gateways, pedestrian and vehicular directionals, parking identification, building identification, map kiosks and street signage.

“Best in Category”

Seton Hill University Donor Helix, Greensburg, PA

KMA Design was asked to design a sculpture commemorating the
numerous donors to the Health Sciences Center.
