KMA Design was hired by the University of Pittsburgh to program, design, and implement a comprehensive signage and wayfinding system for a 12,500-seat collegiate basketball/event arena.
To complement the architectural palette, KMA created an innovative sign program that abstracted graphic elements found in the University’s seal. The patterns of stripes and checks, sandblasted into aluminum provided a subtle textured background for directional and identification messages.
In addition, KMA was responsible for the numbering of all sections, levels and seats, and for the naming of all entrances and levels. These serve as an effective wayfinding tool for the movement of the occasional and frequent user.
