The Borough of Sewickley, in conjunction with the Sewickley Business Development Advisory Committee (BDAC), hired KMA Design to design a signage and wayfinding program to help alleviate confusion for drivers traveling in and through Sewickley, as well as to attract visitors and users to Sewickley’s “Village” Business District.
KMA Design created a cohesive signage program that complemented Sewickley’s rich history, and its tone of quaint sophistication. A green and white color scheme, combined with a nature themed icon, symbolized Sewickley’s emphasis on its environment and natural scenery.
When designing the borough’s new gateways, destination identification, parking identification, business kiosk and directionals, the resourceful KMA Design team utilized materials from Sewickley’s current signage. The basket weave from the signage was refurbished and used as the backdrop for most of the signage designed. The spare stone left over from the construction of the Borough of Sewickley Public Library was utilized when creating the main, secondary and tertiary gateways. Additional signage materials included aluminum and steel.
